Design a yacht that combines exceptional performance with environmental responsibility. This was the starting point for the monohull Skaw (A) by Skaw Sailing’s, a young French company based in Lorient and specialised in the design and architecture of hydrofoil sailing yachts.

Thanks to Sicomin’s GreenPoxy technology and Shoreteam’s expert know-how, we have created a lightweight, solid and durable yacht that pushes the limits of hydrofoil technology for cruising”, says Benoît Marie, offshore sailor and founder of Skaw Sailing, who co-designed the Skaw (A) with naval architect Clément Bercault.

The company called on Shoreteam, a composite parts manufacturer and subsidiary of the Grand Large Yachting group since 2021, to build its yacht. The boat combines high performance with a low carbon footprint, thanks to Sicomin’s GreenPoxy biosourced resins. These resins are obtained from third-generation bio-based glycerol, derived from oleochemical waste, originating from animal and vegetable oils and fats. GreenPoxy resins have lower CO2 emissions than traditional petroleum-based resins, while offering improved mechanical properties, particularly in terms of strength and durability, specially formulated for demanding applications such as marine foiling.

Skaw (A) will be built using the two resins SR InfuGreen 171 for infusion of large parts and SR GreenPoxy 170 for manual lamination and bonding of secondary structures. They will enable Shoreteam to move the boat’s 5,000kg weight with ease and lightness.

Sicomin’s epoxy resins also recently stood out at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, with the metallic flying horse Zeus above the Seine.

A dream boat

Our concept is based on a simple idea: to combine the experience of racing with the  one of cruising with friends or family. Drawing on the innovations of racing to design a fast, easy-to-use cruising yacht for the future,” explain designers Benoît Marie and Clément Bercault, both from Nantes. With the help of designer Jean-Marc Piaton and architect Magdalena Federovicz-Boule, they have created a modular yacht, conceived as “the team’s dream boat, taking the best from monohulls, multihulls, motorboats, motorhomes and lofts”.
