Norway: a pavilion at JEC World to showcase its positioning in high-end global niche markets

For the first time, Norwegian exhibitors at JEC World are coming together under the banner of a national pavilion. The country explains that it is positioning itself in demanding niche markets, particularly the maritime, offshore, aquaculture and critical infrastructure sectors, rather than in mass markets involving low prices.

This is the first year that Norwegian companies are coming together under their own national pavilion at the JEC World trade show. The pavilion has been organised by Norwegian Circular Materials Technology (NCMT), an active industrial cluster that brings together companies and research institutes and which has initiated a comprehensive database on existing composite bridges in Europe. With the composites sector experiencing annual growth of 6–7% in Europe alone, this meeting marks Norway’s common position: the country is relying on its cutting-edge expertise to meet demanding challenges, choosing not to enter the race for mass production and low prices. Norwegian companies are particularly competitive in applications requiring high reliability and durability, particularly in the maritime, offshore, aquaculture and critical infrastructure sectors.

Our advantage is bringing the best to niche markets,” states Vidar Nyhammer, Managing Director of NCMT. “The strategy of the Norwegian composites industry is crystal clear: to deliver unmatched quality and innovation where willingness to pay is highest and requirements are most stringent. This is the formula for how small, agile nations secure the major contracts.”

Various applications and sectors presented at JEC World

At the JEC World trade fair, Norwegian exhibitors will present projects in several sectors led by specialist Norwegian companies such as FiReCo, which tackles complex and critical challenges through the engineering of massive composite structures, ranging from bridges to demanding maritime and marine projects. Gjenkraft, for its part, stands out for its recycling of glass fibre composites – the company has signed an agreement with Owens Corning to incorporate its recycled glass fibres into Owens Corning’s glass reinforcements – while CealTech is a pioneer in the application of graphene in composites to manufacture high-performance products. In addition, Global Consulting Sustainability promotes its projects BLADES2BUILD, about a coupled pre- and co-processing demonstration plant to recycle, repurpose and reuse end-of-life wind blade composites, and CIRCULess, about fostering circularity in the construction and manufacturing process industries.

Norwegian companies clearly state that they have acquired expertise and developed technologies and methods that are ready to be rapidly deployed and implemented in industrial projects around the world. They are now looking for international industrial partners, and the JEC World trade show is the ideal opportunity for this.

The Norwegian pavilion will be in Hall 5, booth D135.
