Brazilian composites industry projects 2% increase in 2019 revenue
In the first half, the Brazilian composites sector earned US$ 310 million, 0.24% higher than in the same period last year. Although the performance was practically identical, the expectation for 2019 is a growth of 2%, totaling US$ 643 million.
The figures are part of the latest survey by Maxiquim, a consulting firm hired by the Latin American Composite Materials Association (ALMACO).
Regarding raw materials, 98,000 tons were consumed from January to June, which should add to the 106 thousand tons expected for the second semester. Thus, the volume of resins, glass fibers and other raw materials processed in 2019 will total 204 thousand tons, 1% more than in 2018. Employment generation, in turn, will show a slight decrease of 0.6%, totaling 5,000 jobs.
Erika Bernardino Aprá, president of ALMACO commented:
“Our projections for 2019 were more positive, but the economic stagnation was greater than we imagined. Anyway, it will be the third consecutive year that the Brazilian composites sector will grow”
With a 35% share of local consumption of polyester composites, civil construction appears ahead of transportation (30%), corrosion/sanitation (19%) and marine (3%), among others. Wind power generation accounts for 90% of the demand for epoxy composites. The oil sector is in second place with 5%.
