fibionic raised €3 million for bionic lightweight technology
Austrian DeepTech startup fibionic, specialising in bionically optimised fibre placement, closed a €3 million (US$3.46 million) seed financing round. The capital will be used for scaling and series production applications, most recently demonstrated through the partnership with saddle manufacturer Selle Italia.
fibionic, an Austrian DeepTech startup founded in 2021, has announced the successful closing of a €3m seed financing round. The round was led by the co-lead investors Redstone with Euregio+, Caesar, and Leap435, supported by various angel investors. This financing will enable the lightweight engineering company to further industrialize its nature-inspired technology for precise fibre placement and drive market entry into new industries.
Modern lightweight engineering inspired by nature
Lightweight materials are considered a key technology for numerous industries, ranging from sports equipment and UAVs to robotics, industrial applications, mobility and more. However, manufacturing, material usage, and automation are often still inefficient. fibionic addresses precisely this problem with its patented, sustainable approach called “fibionic fibre placement”(FFP). Using bionic principles, fibres are aligned specifically along actual load paths, inspired by structures found in nature, such as the wings of a dragonfly. FFP is the world’s fastest, most efficient and most sustainable fibre placement technology, achieving cycle times of up to one minute per component. With FFP, fibionic introduces a fundamentally new standard in process optimization for composite manufacturing.
This results in high-performance, stable components with minimal material usage. fibionic thus positions itself as a provider that makes lightweight engineering more economical, sustainable and ready for series production in all industries, including automotive, sporting goods, aerospace, robotics and defence.
“With fibionic, we are taking high-performance lightweight engineering to the next level. We enable the fast, sustainable and cost-efficient production of extremely high-performing, ultra-light products,” says Elias Hirschbichler, co-founder at fibionic.

Partnership with Selle Italia
In partnership with the Italian heritage brand Selle Italia, a globally leading manufacturer of bicycle saddles, products are now being produced in large-scale series using the unique FFP process to optimize weight, stability, and material efficiency. With fibionic, it is possible to sustainably save up to 60% of material and reduce product weight by up to 50%.

With Redstone, Euregio+, Caesar, and Leap435, fibionic gains investors who specialize in technology-driven early-stage companies and support the team in transitioning from development to market scaling.
“The team impressed us with incredible consistency and vision. Together, we aim to build a European player that makes lightweight engineering competitive and innovative across all key industries,”says Ben Scheidt, Partner at Redstone.

With the seed financing, fibionic plans to expand its industrial processes and further develop its proprietary technology platform. The company also intends to build a high-impact team in engineering and business development. The aim is to transfer pilot applications into production-ready series and scale the fibionic ecosystem, covering the entire process from simulation over equipment technology to materials sales and a dedicated licensing model. This approach includes the development of connected stand alone software packages from fibre trajectory optimizations to automated tool constructions and operating software.
