In recent years, Chengdu has been promoted as “the third aviation city” in mainland China. It is also home to one of the country’s first pilot areas of expertise to reform the collaborative management of low-altitude airspace. Chengdu is at the forefront in terms of policies, talents, innovative resources, industrial chains, etc, and has first-mover advantage on the new track of low-altitude economy.

Aerofugia stated that the AE200 is currently the largest low-altitude travel aircraft in the country, with a wingspan of 14.5 metres, a height and length of 3.5 metres and 9.5 metres respectively, and a cockpit which can carry 4 passengers and 1 pilot. The body is made of composite materials and the power source is lithium battery. With wing assistance, the aircraft can fly 200 kilometers to 300 kilometres at a speed of 250 kilometres per hour at a low altitude of 300 meters to 1,000 meters, and can be used for intercity travel within urban agglomerations.

Aerofugia Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. was created in September 2020, when the American flying car company Terrafugia – acquired 4 years previously by the Chinese automotive manufacturer Geely – announced its merger with the Chinese drone developer AOSSCI.
