Vactac® adhesives have been developed by Power Adhesives. They are formulated specially for use with vacuum infused composites, in order to position and secure reinforcement fabrics, foams, balsa, peel plies and release films during lay-up – even in the largest vacuum infused composite structures.

Vactac® adhesives reduce the adhesive cost per square metre of composite, because they require lower coat weights than aerosol adhesives. They have higher levels of tack than industry-standard SBR-based aerosols, which minimises both the cost and the risk of impacting the composite structure.

Plus, vactac® adhesives are fully compatible with all matrix resins such as polyester and epoxy. Several major manufacturers of composite parts for wind industry, as well as yacht builders – including Elan in Slovenia – have already introduced vactac® due to its economic and environmental advantages.
This system increases efficiency in production and contributes to better health and safety, and an improved work environment for operators.

There is no need for protective equipment, because vactac® is free of solvents and propellants and produces no airborne particles. It also reduces cost for extraction and waste disposal of empty aerosol cans.

Vactac® adhesive also has an unlimited shelf life, making it easy to store and further cutting down on waste.

Fast, single-sided application of the vactac® adhesive is easily achieved with a unique swirl applicator system. The swirl application allows the adhesive to coat a large surface area, contributing to faster working.

Once attached, the materials can still be easily repositioned if required – offering more working time and flexibility for the user. Only once they have been firmly pushed together is the final adhesive bond made.
The swirl applicators used to apply vactac® adhesive are available as part of specialised toolbox kits.

The tec glue guns in these kits are designed for use in industry, and melt the vactac® adhesive on demand. There is no time lost by waiting for glue to melt, because the tool melts the glue as soon as the trigger is pulled, once it has reached operating temperature.

There is also no waste, as any unused adhesive left in the gun at the end of the job simply re-melts next time the tool is switched on and can be used as normal.
