SAMPE Switzerland hosts SAMPE Europe conference with innovation as motto
This last week of September 2021, SAMPE European Chapters meet in Baden in Switzerland for their annual conference. Everyone is happy to see their peers in real life again after last year COVID restrictions.
This year event both live and virtual gathers 316 composite professionals from both worlds, the amost in Baden. The theme “Innovating towards perfection” perfectly matches the cliché about swiss quality and engineering, but it’s more than a cliché. With high labour costs, Switzerland must continuously innovate to remain competitive. Its 3rd place in the Bloomberg ranking of the most innovative countries in the world shows the results.
Accordind to Hans-Jürg Gysin, President of SAMPE Switzerland, his country has a well developped automation level with skilled and accurate people. He’s realistic though knowing that innovation is in real life mainly incremental.
Switzerland has several universities deeply involved in Composites. The EPFL in Lausanne and ETH Zürich are reknowed in many international rankings but smaller universities are really driving innovation in composites too.
Attendees of the conference visited different manufacturung sites and were able to see presentations about new materials, new processes, new applicatiions including hydrogen storage, and sustainability – Just to name a few.
