Schmidt & Heinzmann presents AutoCut Pick&Place and Cube at JEC World 2024
Making a good process even better – Schmidt & Heinzmann will show how this can be achieved at the leading trade fair for fibre composite materials at JEC World 2024, in Paris from March 05th – 07th. The company will be presenting solutions for the automated manufacturing of components as well as SMC semi-finished materials at the Baden-Württemberg Pavilion in Hall 6, Booth N82.
With the AutoCut Pick&Place customers will be able to produce their stacks from SMC or dry fibre fabrics even more efficiently in the future, as the new solution combines several process steps and the new SMC line Cube makes the production of SMC semi-finished materials fit for the future. With its fundamental new design as well as control and sensor technology the system meets all current and future requirements for a modern production line.
Cutting & Stacking redesigned: AutoCut Pick&Place
With the compact AutoCut Pick&Place, Schmidt & Heinzmann has redesigned the automated cutting, weighing, and stacking of SMC materials as well as dry fibre fabrics. In addition to the well-known features of the AutoCut such as:
• Simplest programming thanks to generic software, which enables fast and material-saving production
• Different cutting technologies for various materials
• Automated compensation function for correct stack weights
The new model now also offers on the smallest footprint the option of stacking and weighing of the plies directly on the AutoCut. In this case, an integrated gantry system with a multifunctional gripper builds the stack. Compared to a traditional machine concept a handling robot can be saved.
Benefits:
• Faster handling due to shorter traveling distance
• Faster installation and start-up thanks to integrated functions
• Reduced footprint due to compact design

The next generation of SMC lines: Cube
The design of SMC lines has hardly changed since the 1960s. Therefore, it is not surprising, that the current machine concept is exclusively designed to meet the needs of SMC material production. Issues such as reducing emissions or ergonomics in the workplace were less important so far. With the fundamentally adapted layout of the Cube, Schmidt & Heinzmann succeeded in developing a new machine concept that meets the highest production requirements with its compact design and at the same time takes into account the current and future requirements of a modern working environment. With the new controls and sensor concept for recording, analyzing, and storing production data, the Cube catapults SMC production into the digital age and enables the production of even higher-quality SMC material.
Benefits
• Live analysis and logging of all process data for each single centimeter of material
• Maximum reproducibility and lowest scrap rates
• Roving tension optimized unwinding creel for fault free mass production
• New de-aeration concept for minimized air entrapments
• Ergonomic operability of key elements
• Decentralized electronics, no external electrical cabinet
• Compact design with reduction of footprint up to 50 %
• Enclosed system for a cleaner and less contaminated environment
• Designed for highest product quality and high-performance materials
