Tecniplas gathers data on +7,000 composites tanks that it has manufactured since 1976
Since 1976, the year in which the Brazilian company Tecniplas started its activities, it has manufactured more than seven thousand composites tanks and a multitude of special equipment. Each generated a series of information that is compiled and stored to date in data books – part of this gigantic file also includes physical samples. All this in favor of traceability and, mainly, quality control.
Rafael Fruchi, responsible for the quality department at Tecniplas, summarizes:
“We compiled the data for each product we manufacture. More than increasing our own safety, this allows the customer to attest at any time that the tank or equipment that he put into operation was dimensioned correctly and according to the specification.”
The gathering of information, explains Fruchi, begins with the receipt of raw materials.
“We control everything from resin to screw, and we only release the inputs that come with the respective quality certificates issued by the manufacturers to production area. Otherwise, the materials are blocked at the entrance of our plant”.
After manufacturing the composites tanks – up to 15 meters in diameter – or special equipment, such as cooling towers and gas scrubbers, Tecniplas generates specimens from the laminates. Each sample goes through different types of tests, such as Barcol Hardness, acetone and firing tests, among others.
ASME RTP-1
After this stage, the tanks and special equipment go to the assembly process – their own and the accessories, such as the nozzles. The activity is closely monitored by quality control, to avoid any damage to the laminate. When requested by the customer, Tecniplas still submits the ready tank to the leak test, in which the reservoir is filled with water to detect any leaks.
Recalling that all products manufactured by Tecniplas follow the American standard ASME RTP-1, which refers to corrosion-resistant FRP equipment, Fruchi observes:
“We even monitor how the tank is packed in the truck, all to guarantee the customer that their order left without any damage to our factory.”
